Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban keeps to his earlier statements that the demands of railway workers were justified and realistic.

The Swedish government announced plans to make additional investments of EUR 89.7 million in the rail network this year. The money will be granted by the National Transportation Administration (Trafikverket).

The workers of PKP Cargo, PKP Intercity and Infrastructure Repair Company voted in a referendum regarding possibility of striking. It seems many workers would be ready to strike in case of privatization the above-mentioned companies.

Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) on the meeting in Almaty (Kazakhstan) has signed an agreement to open a $63 million 519 thousands credit line for a period of 8 years in the frames of project “Osipovichsky Carriage Works”(OCW).

On 19 April representatives of Social Dialogue Commission met with the officials from the ministry of transport to discuss the proposal of shutting down several rail lines and leasing other non-interoperable lines.

Russian transport Company Rail Garant has signed an agreement with Estonian Company Talinna Sadam. The agreement concerns cooperation and investment in container transport in Muuga port managed by Estonian company.

In April Czech Railways lowered wages of part of management and administration employees. The wages have been lowered by 10%.

The chairman of the committee of directors of "Russian Railways” (RZD) Mr. Zhukov сlaimed that “The committee of directors of RZD tentatively decided to sell as one lot 75% minus 2 shares of 'First Freight Company'”.

In accordance with the report of Statistics Committee of Ukraine freight rates on all types of cargo have increased.

For the last months the cooperation between China and Hungary has been developing. Hungarian minister of development Tamas Fellegi visited China several times to discuss the details of the cooperation. One of the topics of the meetings was modernization of Hungarian rail system.

A four side agreement was signed during the meeting that took place in Beijing on April 14.

According to official press release the volume of cargo transported by container trains on the Belarusian Railways amounted 48,197 twenty foot equivalent containers (TEUs) what stands for 4.6% increase in comparison with the first quarter of last year.

According to the Agency of Rail Transport, in 2010 around 370900 train services were delayed, which is 25,3 percent of all services. The total, the time of delays was 140100 hours, which gives an average delay of 22,6 min for each train.

Between January and March 2011 traffic volumes of the "First Freight Company” (FFC) amounted over 72.1 million tonnes what means 17,0% increase in comparison with the same period of 2010.

As was claimed by Director General of Ukrainian Railways (UZ) Mr. Kozak Russian Railways (RZD) and UZ agreed to take the measures to improve existing technologies of transferring electronic bills of lading and other shipping documents for border crossing.

According to official press release Estonian Railways during the first quarter transported 8.59 million tonnes of cargo what is 14%more in relation with the corresponding period of last year.

Czech Railways have announced a public tender for diesel fuel supplier worth CK 7.5 billion (EUR 310.7 million) .

The project of implementation of high-speed railway communication between St. Petersburg and Helsinki didn’t get the full financing and its completion will be delayed.

An oil waste proceeding complex at the flushing –curing station Barbarov (Gomel) at present is under construction.

Group "Eurosib" (St. Petersburg) has created a "Novosibirsk Locomotive Company” (NLC) which will provide services for locomotives, put cars for loading and unloading on the stations, provide the maneuverability of the work stations of the Novosibirsk Railway Center.
