International conference on railway container transport from Asia
Between 23-25 of March a conference concerning container transport from Asia in Prague (Czech Republic) will take place. The event is organized by JERID company and will be one of the most important meetings concerning rail freight in 2011.
Germany: DB soon to purchase 300 long-distance trains
Siemens is very close to finalizing the agreement with Deutsche Bahn (DB) for construction of new generation long-distance trains.
Germany: Arriva Deutschland to be asquisited by Ferrovie dello Stato and Cube Transport
On 16 February 2011, the proposed acquisition of Arriva Deutschland by Ferrovie dello Stato and Cube Transport was accepted by European Commission, a subsidiary of Cube Infrastructure Fund, an investment fund specialised in infrastructure and public services.
Romania: Government dismissed CFR Marfa’s budget for 2011.
Romanian prime minister asked the transport minister to reassess the document, saying that an income cost budget cannot be elaborated with losses. He said that it should be at least estimated at zero profit.
Ukraine: Almost 23%-growth in freight carriage sector in January 2011
According to the State Statistics Committee, rail cargo sector in Ukraine noted a rise of 22.9% in January 2011, comparing to the same period in 2010.
Romania: Work group for monitoring works on Bucharest – Constanta line
Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure signed on February 16, 2011 an order to form a group, which will be monitoring works on Bucharest – Constanta railway line.

Polish company ZNLE is preparing new multisystem locomotive for passenger and freight traffic. New unit will be called E4ACU Elephant.

Tender for leasing of 6 electric multiple units has been won by Newag company.
Serbia: Agreement between striking workers and Serbian railways
The workers of Serbian Railways ended striking on 16 February, after negotiations with representatives of the entity government in Doboj.
Bulgaria: Bulgarian rolling stock to be overhauled
According to Vladimir Vladimirov, the chairman of BDZ Holding Board of Directors, Bulgarian rolling stock could be overhauled in 3-4 years.

Ukrainian railways will take new credits: from VTB Bank (Russia) and from the Sberbank (Russia).

According to Ukrzaliznytsya, the company started promoting railways as a good means of transport for tourists.
Czech Republic: Prague authorities have reservations about new 15T trams
Prague councilor Tomas Hudecek has challenged CZK 20 billion (EUR 5.7m) worth order for trams which is supposed to be realized by Skoda.
