Ukraine: Most advanced technology to be used in construction of High-speed railways
Vladimir Kozak, director general of Ukraine Railways, said that the development of technical and economic conditions for constructing the high-speed railways has to take into consideration the most advanced technology available.
Russia: Foreign companies can build new rail link
Consortiums from four countries are interested in taking part in the construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway line, said Denis Muratov, general director of High-Speed Rail Lines, a subsidiary of Russian Railways.
Czech Republic, Slovakia: Regiojet presented its trains in Prauge
Czech private carrier Regiojet – a subsidiary of Student Agency- introduced in Prague train set produced by Bombardier that will be deployed on Slovak tracks next year.
Latvia, Belarus: Riga-Minsk rail connection from 1 June
On 1 June 2011, Latvian railways, in cooperation with Belarusian railways, will establish the rail line between Riga and Minsk.
Germany: Bombardier – Siemens’ subcontractor in the contract for 300 ICx trains
Bombardier will be a subcontractor to German rail copany Siemens AG in a deal valued at up to EUR 7 billion. German state-owned rail operator Deutsche Bahn ordered 300 trains, that will be produced by Siemens. Bombardier's share will be at least EUR 2.4 million.

According to analysts, using the electrical grid powering German rail system to transport wind energy could save the country a lot of money.
Serbia: Serbian railways to be under the reform of the structure
Until June 2011 Serbian railways will be divided into four companies. The government of Serbia should adopt a new founding act for Serbian railways.
Estonia: Tender for new Eegines for EVR Cargo
Estonian railway operator Eesti Raudtee’s subsidiary EVR Cargo declared in the middle of March an international procurement for 16 new maneuvering engines.
Slovenia: Results for the first quarter of 2011
Slovenian Railways made a positive result for the first quarter of 2011.The company significantly exceeded the plan for the period between January and March 2011.
Bulgaria: BDZ and Tip Top Courier – joint venture
According to a request filed with the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC), Bulgarian railways will set up a joint venture with local postal operator Tip Top Courier.
Germany: Deutsche Bahn has a permission for a purchase of new ICx trains
On 21 April the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn allowed the carrier to purchase the new trains ICx. The agreement provides a delivery of 300 new units. It is the biggest investment in the history of Deutsche Bahn.
Germany: Problems during the holiday time
On Friday, 22 April 2011 too many passengers in the IC rail service from Frankfurt to Westerland caused serious problems. At the station Munster too many passengers got on the train and that made impossible to continue the journey. The situation needed the intervention of the police.
Russia: RZD plans to spend EUR 4.5 million for improvement of technical standards
Russian Railways announced that in 2011 the company plans to spend RUB 187 million (EUR 4.5 million) to develop 84 technical standards.
Russia: Preliminary approval of subsidiaries privatization
Russian Railways announced that company’s board preliminarily approved sale of stakes in RZD’s subsidiaries. The company is hoping to gain interests of a strategic investor during series of tenders that will be announced in the third quarter of 2011.
Czech Republic: Czech Railways will pay EUR 10.5 million fine
The Regional Court in Brno dismissed the complain of Czech Railways against Office of Protection of Competition. Czech carrier will have to pay CZK 254 million (EUR 10.5 million) for abusing its dominant position on the market.
Poland: Newag signs new contracts and hires new workers?
Over EUR 250-million-contract with Metro Warszawwkie, a contract with PKP Cargo (a repair of 100 locomotives) worth EUR 98 million, a leasing of 2 electric multiple units for Warsaw’s Szybka Kolej Miejska - these are the latest successes of Newag that allow to look the owners of the company in the future with the optimism.
Russia: net profit of TransContainer increased by 26 times
Russia's leading rail container operator summed up the results for the first quarter of 2011 according to which net profit of the company amounted 512.7 million Russian rubles.
Russia: International Forum "Transport Infrastructure in Russia - an innovative way of development" was held on April 21
Participation in forum took the representatives of public authorities and Ministry of Transport, the heads of federal agencies and departments which regulate transport industry, heads of the largest transportation, logistics, finance, insurance, research organizations, and representatives of major business media.

A special meeting was held on April 21 with the participation of chiefs of Ukrainian Railways(UZ) and representatives of engineering companies.
Czech Republic: Refurbished regional trains again in service
First seven cars have been reintroduced to service in the Jihlava region. After Jihlava region also South and Central regions are going to bring repaired cars back on track.
