HZ Infrastruktura, the subsidiary of the state-owned Croatian Railways, announced on the 28th of July, that it has chosen a winner in a tender for reconstruction of a railway bridge in Zagreb.

Poland: Construction of the 2nd metro line will start in August

The local authorities of Wola district in Warsaw gave the approval for launching the construction of the entrance tunnel for two boring machines on the building site of the second metro line.

Lithuania: H1 freight transport results of Lithuanian Railways

The state-owned Lithuanian Railways carried 23.03 million tons of freight in the first half of 2010. It is 16.6% more than in the same period a year before.

Czech Railways informed, that in the first half of this year it increased the sale of tickets on the domestic routes.

Slovakia: EUR 177m from the EU to be spent on rolling-stock

European Union will grant EUR 177m non-repayable contribution to Slovak Railways ZSSK for purchase of the new rolling-stock and the modernization of the existing fleet.

Czech Republic: Czechs consider railaways the safest mode of transport

SANEP agency reports 33.1% of Czechs consider rail the safest mode of transport. Travelling by plane comes second safest gaining trust of 32.1 passengers. Buses are considered the least safe with only 3.4% positive responses. Private cars are trusted by just 9.4% of respondents. The survey was held from 6 to 13 July this year. 4361 were questions. The respondents were 18-69 years old.

The Polish rail carrier PKP LHS, operating trains on the wide-gauge, carried 4 million tons of freight in the first half of 2010. It is 9.9% more than the plan.

On the 26th of July took place a meeting of transport ministers of Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. Patrick Vlacic, Bozidar Kalmeta and Milutin Mrkjonic agreed, that the state-owned companies of the three countries will form a joint venture.

The new Czech transport minister Vit Barta filed a criminal complaint against the former head of CD Cargo, the freight subsidiary of the state-owned Czech Railways.
