Germany: DB to operate streetcars in England
Deutsche Bahn (DB) will further expand its services in England. The German company will take over operations of the Tyne and Wear Metro on the first of April 2010.
Deutsche Bahn already owns the Chiltern Trains passenger franchise and has 50 percent stakes in Wrexham, Shropshire & Marylebone Railway and the London Overground commuter service. It also runs Britain’s biggest rail-freight company and may bid for a stake in the U.K. arm of Channel Tunnel operator Eurostar Group Ltd, Bloomberg reports.
