Hungary: EUR 660m real estate project near Nyugati

Hungarian media report that MÁV could call a tender for a EUR 660m rehabilitation of the area behind Budapest's Nyugati railway station.

Under the proposal, prepared by the Hungarian National Asset Management Company (MNV) and commissioned by the government, the winning bidder would get a 20- to 25-year concession to use the area and maintain the railway infrastructure. At the end of the period, MÁV would take over the infrastructure, but the winning bidder would keep the commercial buildings on the site.

The project could be inaugurated by 2012.

The area behind Nyugati station was earlier to be transformed into a new government quarter, but the plans were scrapped in January 2008.
